Pencil Types

A freshly sharpened pencil is one of life’s simplest pleasures. What better way to bring a little joy to a colleague or a client than with a #2 pencil bearing your business’s name and logo!

In this second post from our series on designing custom pencils, we’ll go over the most important part of your project: the pencil itself! Which pencil is right for your project, and how will your design be printed on it? Read on to find out. For custom designs, we produce high-quality, made in the USA pencils in various styles so you can choose one that works for your project!

Custom Round Pencils

  • Round pencils are not only comfy in the hand and familiar to pencil enthusiasts of all ages, they’re also available in our most versatile range of printing options.

  • Your round pencil can come tipped or untipped (with or without an eraser). If you choose to tip your pencil, you have a few options: gold, silver, or black for the ferrule (the metal band that holds the eraser on the pencil) ; white, pink, or black for the eraser. Of course, we can do any custom ferrule or eraser colors on orders of a certain size, so if you are curious about something you’re not seeing, whether for a round or any other pencil style, just ask!

  • These are available in so many colors! Choose from 33 standard, 6 metallic, or 6 neon colors, or choose your own Pantone® match for orders over 10 gross.

  • Printing styles:
    • 1-color foil imprint, available in 22 colors
    • Silk screen printing
    • Custom heat transfer

Custom Hexagonal Pencils

  • Harken back to your school days with this classic! Six-sided for extra gripping (and so they don’t roll away so easily), these pencils are a clean and simple choice for a minimal design.

  • Hexagonal pencils can also come tipped or untipped. Pick from your choice of gold, silver, or black for the ferrule; white, pink, or black for the eraser.

  • Our hexagonal pencils are known for having a sharp hex (as opposed to a slightly rounded, semi-hex). This gives our pencils an ever so slight increase to the printable area than you’ll find with other manufacturers.

  • Available in our full range of 33 standard, 6 metallic, or 6 neon colors, or pick your choice of Pantone color match for orders over 10 gross.

  • You can print on up to 3 sides of a hex.

  • Printing style:
    • 1-color foil imprint, available in 22 colors

Custom Carpenter Pencils

  • Carpenter pencils are wide, flat pencils that are especially designed for carpentry and construction. Their rectangular shape not only makes it so they don’t roll off work surfaces, it also makes sharpening with a utility knife (an everyday necessity for most tool belts and workbenches) very easy.

  • Because of their size, carpenter pencils have a wider print area than other pencil types, and you’re able to print on both sides of the pencil.

  • And if you’d like, you can also choose the type of graphite you want for your carpenter pencils from soft, medium, to hard (although our standard and recommended core is medium)!

  • Available in 11 colors, or you can pick a custom Pantone match (for orders with 10 gross or more).

  • Printing styles:
    • Digital printing in up to four colors
    • 1-color foil imprint, available in 22 colors

Custom Jumbo Pencils

  • Originally designed for practicing penmanship, jumbo pencils are a great choice for small hands and are favored in kindergarten classrooms. Because of their size, they also have a bit more heft and weight than a standard pencil, so many people find jumbo pencils a comfy transition from pens. They also have a larger print area than a standard pencil.

  • Jumbo pencils are available in three sizes: round barrel with 8.5mm diameter (commonly known as mini-jumbo), round barrel with 9.5mm diameter, and hexagonal barrel with 8.8mm diameter.

  • Available in 8 colors or pick a custom Pantone match for orders over 10 gross.

  • Jumbo pencils can come tipped or untipped. Ferrules can come in gold or silver, and you can choose pink or white for your eraser. Pro tip: Some teachers prefer untipped pencils for kids — it helps teachers see how students work through problems!

  • Printing styles:
    • For round jumbos
      • 1-color foil imprint, available in 22 colors
      • Silk screen printing
      • Custom heat transfer
    • For hexagonal jumbos
      • 1-color foil imprint, available in 22 colors

  • Best known for keeping score on the golf course, these short little cuties are versatile for lots of projects! Their compact size makes them perfect for tucking in pockets, packages, baby or wedding shower games, or goodie bags. As an added bonus, these babies come pre-sharpened, so they’ll be ready to put to immediate use.
  • Golf pencils come in two styles: round or hexagonal. Note that they are very short, too — they’re only 3″ long!
  • Available with or without erasers. Choose from gold, silver, or black for the ferrule; white, pink, or black for the eraser.
  • Choose from 33 standard, 6 metallic, or 6 neon colors, or pick your own custom Pantone match with orders over 10 gross.

Custom Bridge Pencils

  • Originally designed to accompany a deck of cards for playing contract bridge, these chic pencils are slimmer and shorter than a standard pencil. Their sleek stature may be small, but they make a very big impact, particularly because they’re not very common (perfect way to stand out!).
  • Because of their slimmer size, the print area for these is much smaller than other pencil options.
  • Available with or without erasers. Choose from gold, silver, or black for the ferrule; white, pink, or black for the eraser.
  • Bridge pencils are available in a minimalist color palette: choose from black, white, silver, or cream.
  • Printing styles available:
    • 1-color foil imprint, available in 22 colors
    • Silk screen printing
    • Custom heat transfer
